Balenciaga‘s Fall 2024 Collection made its debut with a spectacular runway presentation in the heart of Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone as the luxury fashion house’s first show in the city. The runway took over a palm tree-lined street leading to the iconic Hollywood sign, setting the stage for a show scored by BFRND with a custom track featuring multiple voiceovers, offering a cinematic glimpse into designer Demna’s interpretation of L.A.’s fashion codes.
The collection itself unfolded as an ode to the diverse facets of LA living, encompassing activities like jogging, yoga, and gym sessions, seamlessly transitioning to glamorous Hollywood evenings. Cristóbal Balenciaga-inspired gowns, step-and-repeat-ready, embodied the transition. The seasonal range embraced updated grunge, upscaled daywear, and signature tailoring, creating a dynamic and multifaceted collection.
The activewear section showcased a range of shorts, bra tops, leggings, and sweatshirts, transitioning into a jersey section with a nod to the classic American velour tracksuit. The neo-grunge exploration featured oversized and layered looks, including cut-up asymmetric trousers, hand-embroidered leopard-motif coats, and iconic knee-high Alaska boots.
Upscaled daywear introduced outsize proportions and precise tailoring, serving as a prelude to the evening wear. The designs cleverly fused past and present, drawing inspiration from original creations by Cristobal Balenciaga himself.
